Who is DMS?
Behind each great product is a great company and we are just that! We, the people at Fireco Ltd manufacture intelligent products that listen for the sound of the fire alarm and that help service providers comply with their responsibilities and legal obligations under new legislation.
Our crazy MD came up with the initial idea of an intelligent door wedge from the 80’s Dancing Daisy (don’t ask!!), which instead of permanently holding the door open ‘listens’ for the fire alarm and closes the door when it hears the alarm – so the Dorgard was born!
Following on from Dorgard we developed Deafgard, this is a fab product that when the fire alarm sounds and the user is asleep, it will wake them up by vibrating a pillow pad and flashing a strobe. This product also gives back the control to the deaf or hard of hearing person so they can evacuate themselves from a building.
Take a look at the Fireco website if you want some more information as this is just a taster!

Where do we start! When you ask yourself this question it should always be answered with: “At the
beginning!
DMS stands for Deaf Message Service and ‘surprisingly’ it was a play on the abbreviation SMS. DMS does exactly what is says on the tin - it’s a text message service for deaf and hard of hearing people, but (and this is a big BUT) it is a clever message service...it alerts deaf or hard of hearing people when the fire alarm sounds when they are in a registered building.
Clever hey, we think so!
We have been involved with our local Deaf Association for a long time now and have been developing products for deaf and hard of hearing people for over 10 years. This is why we know how important it is for a deaf or hard of hearing person to know what is going on in an emergency situation and not have to rely on someone else to tell them.
Obviously face to face communication is important but with the impact of technology affecting everything we do, research has shown that membership of clubs for deaf people are falling countrywide, because like the rest of the population those with a hearing impairment use mobile phones to communicate via text messages.

What a great piece of equipment DMS is! It can be used in so many applications - not just to alert the hard of hearing.
